Karen A. Fallon, PH.D.,CCC-SLP  provides professional, research-informed  services to children, adolescents, & adults who struggle with language, literacy, & learning. Dr. Fallon's services include comprehensive spoken & written language assessments, professional consultation, & continuing education workshops.

Karen A. Fallon, Ph.D.,CCC-SLP

Dr. Fallon is a certified, licensed speech-language pathologist who specializes in language, literacy, & language-learning disabilities. She has over 28 years of experience working clinically as a speech-language pathologist in pediatric hospitals and schools and as a university professor in graduate speech-language pathology programs. Dr. Fallon has devoted her career to the advancement of language & literacy knowledge and the support of individuals and families who struggle with language-learning disabilities including dyslexia.

Dr. Fallon earned her B.S., M.S., & Ph.D. in Communication Sciences & Disorders from Penn State. Since earning her doctorate, Dr. Fallon has held faculty appointments at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Towson University, University of Maryland, & Gwynedd Mercy University. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in language development, language disorders, reading & writing development & disorders, technical writing, and clinical methods in speech-language pathology. In 2017, Dr. Fallon was awarded the University State System of Maryland Board of Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Fallon is the founding director of a new Speech-Language Pathology M.S. Program at Gwynedd Mercy University. While on faculty at Towson University, Dr. Fallon served as the Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program Director and founded the Adolescent and Adult Language & Literacy Clinic for students with language & literacy disorders. Dr. Fallon conducts research focused on assessment and treatment practices for children, adolescents, and young adults with spoken and written language disorders. Dr. Fallon has presented her work at regional, national, and international conferences and workshops. She also has numerous peer-reviewed publications in scholarly journals and books.

Dr. Fallon holds a certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing-Association (ASHA) and licensure in SLP from the state of Maryland. She currently serves as vice president on the executive board of the Maryland Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA). Dr. Fallon is also a professional service provider member of the IDA professional directory.

Assessment - Consultation - Workshops

Art Class

Spoken & Written Language Assessment

Evidence-based, comprehensive, individualized assessments to identify strengths and challenges in speaking, listening, reading, & writing. Assessment results can determine the presence of language-based learning disabilities such as dyslexia that may impact academic performance. Comprehensive assessment reports include a thorough description of assessment results, detailed recommendations, and a comprehensive language & literacy intervention plan.

Consultation & Guidance

Includes a variety of professional, expert services intended to support individuals who struggle with language and literacy. Services include: advocating for students and families in IEP & mediation meetings, serving as an expert witness, reviewing reports, documents, & IEPs, developing student goals and learning plans, collaborating with learning teams, and providing expert advice to school staff, professionals, and families. Professional guidance is available for individuals and families who are trying navigate challenging academic and vocational contexts. Guidance may include answering questions, problem solving, or planning for language, literacy, and learning needs.

Workshops & Continuing Education


Presentations offered on a variety of language, literacy, & learning topics such as reading & writing readiness, interactive book reading, early literacy, school age & adolescent assessment & intervention, dyslexia, & Structured Literacy Intervention. Workshops can be tailored to professionals or families/community members.
